The Dandelion Fight

The Dandelion Fight

My lawn is a mix of triumphant battle battered dandelions
Beaten with weed killer, but they’re tryin’
To stand tall, even if half of them fall with a curved stem.
I thought defeat would come to them
But they stand ready for another blow
So I’ll fight with a mow.

The remaining poofs see a tragic
Disappearing under the blade.
But we both know, like magic,
They’ll grow where they’ve strayed.

Greener

Greener

I notice new windows on a house and wonder how much they paid
The cost of a new roof too, I wish could be relayed
Through the end product prominently displayed.

Landscaping, The flowerbed’s they’ve made
While my grass remains grubbily grayed.
One neighbor’s out there hand trimming each blade.

I pander blessings misconveyed
Sitting in my porch’s shade
And wonder when the green will fade.

Japanese Beetles Sucked

A Japanese Beetle should cower
When sitting on top of my flower,
Eating Petunias with Glee.
He’ll no longer mettle
I’m crushing each petal
And stomping each buffet to-be.

Trapped inside astonishment
We both hold some accomplishment
Until I find his buddies in my garden
Pesto potential’s eaten
By those who’ve found a seat in
My basil plants and fail to beg my pardon.

Previous instincts didn’t suck
So I try a whirlwind attack
Rubbing my shop vac quick for luck
Let’s hope that they never come back.

Potential-Rain Delay

It was supposed to rain, and it still may,
Not just rain, but thunderstorms and stuff.
I reasoned that I couldn’t mow today
For fear that clouds had filled enough.

I don’t want rain dripping from the sky
Leaking on me as I mow the lawn.
I’d check to see cloud after cloud go by
But ominously clouds were never gone.

I nodded with a friend who felt the same,
“You can’t mow the lawn in weather like this,
What would you do if the rain came?”
No, you have to plan your mower to miss

The down pour or else you’d have to stop,
And then put the lawnmower away.
Your half mowed lawn of weedy crop,
Looking worse than yesterday.

Why would I mow the lawn
If it wouldn’t do any good?
I’d rather have my weeds grow on
Than have my lawn misunderstood.
